Background Brot für die Welt together with a local partner organization in El Salvador initiated the implementation of the Youth for Climate Action project. The project supports El Salvador on the path to a "net zero" economy. This will be done in line with the NDCs, the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity. Youth will take the lead in climate-friendly model projects, whose objective is to protect the Salvadoran environment and mitigate climate change, as well as generate new sources of employment. This project aims to strengthen the capacities, networks and voices of youth and youth organisations. These actors present the advantages of green technologies to private companies, financial institutions and political entities. It also provides young people, particularly young women, with career prospects and enables them to be active agents of sustainable change. Youth, including indigenous women, are trained as climate protectors. Once their capacities have been strengthened, young people launch pilot projects of green technologies for the agriculture and energy sectors. Civil society and youth organizations learn to participate in political processes. Knowledge from pilot projects, intersectoral cooperation and advocacy processes is shared in South-North and South-South exchanges.
