Jan 2025 Intervention Sector(s): Agriculture CARE Overview Timeline CARE established its presence in Lebanon in 2006 and has been responding to the Syrian Crisis since late 2012.Among CAREs key imperatives is putting people it serves first through implementing cutting edge programming in areas it operates.CARE currently carries out activities in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Akkar, North Lebanon, South Lebanon, and the Beqaa Valley. CARE implements both emergency and development projects contributing to livelihood, food security, protection, gender, shelter, and water, sanitation, and hygiene. It targets the most vulnerable people and populations, both host communities and refugees.Over the course of 7 years, it has supported over than half a million beneficiaries. In Lebanon, CAREs program strategy for the upcoming years will focus on strengthening and expanding its emergency response and capacity to provide basic assistance services while pursuing development projects in areas of food security and livelihood support, gender, and protection. CARE intends to maintain its presence in all areas of Lebanon. CARE Lebanon has scaled up rapidly over the past few years and today it has about 90 staff members, with more than 15 different local/international partner organizations. 90% of the team is composed of national staff, with a symbolic number of international members. Project overview The main objective of this project responds to WFP, Strategic Plan and Theory of Change pathways to improve the resilience of individuals, households, communities, and systems in the face of economic and climatic shocks and stressors affecting the food security, nutrition and wellbeing of Lebanese and displaced women and men in vulnerable areas. The intervention is equally aligned with WFPs Goals to achieve zero hunger, feed the hungry poor, enhance food security, reduce malnutrition while keeping a gender lens on the general approach and contributing to reducing protection risks and applying gender transformative and disability inclusive practices. The project partners will work on one outcome at the Individual, Community, and System Levels in North and South Lebanon to accomplish the following in AFDAL IV project: Enhance resilience to climate change/shocks, increase productivity, access to market, and overall improve employability and income generation opportunities within the food system. Scope of work: Construction of new greenhouses and rehabilitation of existing ones, with an estimated total of 100 farmers across different locations. The distribution between new constructions and rehabilitated ones will be determined based on the needs identified in consultation with farmers. Quantity: New greenhouses: up to 60 units for new greenhouse Rehabilitation of exiting greenhouses: the number of greenhouses that need to be rehabilitation will be for a up to 120 Location: 50 different locations greenhouses in South (Zahrani and Nabatiyeh area), 50 different locations Greenhouses in Akkar (Sahel Area) General Features for the construction of new greenhouses and rehabilitation: 1.Natural Ventilation: Design with door for optimal heat discharge & natural indoor climate regulation. 2.Insect & Rain Proof: Anti-insect and anti-white flies nets with mesh installments on door sides to ensure crop protection. 3.Safety Access System: Consisting of 4-door installments with 3 meter width. 4.Robust Structure: Made of galvanized steel tubes able to resist harsh climate variations and hard wind conditions. 5.Crop Holder: Designed with built-in crop support installed on each arch, can hold more than 16Kg/m2. 6.Easy Installation: Ready-to-assemble greenhouse delivered with all required accessories technicians & workers for installment of 1 unit in 2 days. Construction of new greenhouses to the following detailed specifications: Product Type: Single tunnel greenhouse Size: 8 m2 wide - 41 m2 long Ridge height: 3 m Structural design: needs to be sound enough to withstand wind speed minimum 100 km/hr. and minimum load of 25 kg/m3. There should be provision for opening one portion at either side for entry of small tractor/tiller. The firm needs to highlight design features. Structure: Complete structure made of galvanized steel tubular pipes having wall thickness 2mm, Structural member should be joined with fasteners properly. Fasteners: All nuts and Bolts must be high tensile strength and galvanized. Entrance and door: two entrance doors need per side, to be provided and covered with 200-micron UV stabilized transparent plastic films. Two doors of size 2m width and 2.5 m height double leaf made in plastic/FRP sheets mounted in suitable strong frame. The door opening direction (from the top or bottom) should be based on the farmers request. Covering material: UV stabilized 200-micron transparent Plastic films, multilayered, anti-drip, anti-fog, anti-Sulphur diffused, clear and having 85% level of light transmittance. Fixing materials: The Arch will be fixed using iron steel (coated wires -36per greenhouses) with a thickness of 4 to 6 mm, requiring approximately 50 kg of iron steel for each greenhouse. Number of Arch: a total of 18 Arch structures, with 2 m between the first and second arch, increasing to 2.5 m between subsequent arches. Galvanized wires: 10 galvanized wires per greenhouse for crop support After-sales services: Warranty: free maintenance for one year from date of installation. Full Drip irrigation system to the greenhouses (The GR can be 20 cm / 25 cm or 40 cm /50 cm, based on the farmers preference) Rehabilitation of greenhouses: Rehabilitation of existing greenhouses, including necessary repairs and replacement of polyethylene covers with 200-micron UV-stabilized sheets. Installation of a complete irrigation system tailored for the greenhouses (The GR can be 20 cm / 25 cm or 40 cm /50 cm, based on the farmers preference). Entrance and door: two entrance doors need per side, to be provided and covered with 200-micron UV stabilized transparent plastic films. Two doors of size 2m width and 2.5 m height double leaf made in plastic/FRP sheets mounted in suitable strong frame. The door opening direction (from the top or bottom) should be based on the farmers request. Galvanized wires: 10 galvanized wires per greenhouse for crop support Ensuring compliance with local building codes and environmental regulations. Eligibility Criteria: Contractors must possess: Demonstrated experience in greenhouse construction and rehabilitation projects. Relevant licenses, certifications, and insurance. Capacity to complete the project within the specified timeline and budget.
