The objective of the Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Project for Malawi is to increase access to, and utilization of, selected services known to contribution to the reduction of child stunting, maternal and child anemia, and the prevention of HIV and AIDS in children and sexually active adults. The changes include: the Government of Malawi (GOM) has requested to reallocate US$7 million within the Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Project (NHAP) to support the implementation of a newly drafted Ebola preparedness plan, endorsed on October 24, 2014 by the Malawi disaster risk management committee on nutrition and health, chaired by the Secretary of Health. A level two restructuring is proposed to add a new component, (part three, ?support for Ebola preparedness?), to IDA grant No. H7610, and reallocate US$7 million from component two (support for the National HIV/AIDS strategic plan, 2011-2016) to support the implementation of the Ebola preparedness plan. As one of the implementing agencies of the NHAP, the National AIDS Commission (NAC) will work closely with the Ministry of Health, district hospitals and other development partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), to implement the proposed new component on Ebola preparedness. In addition, the results framework of the original project will be revised to include two new intermediate outcome level indicators, also monitored in the national Ebola preparedness plan: (i) number of isolation units established for Ebola case investigation and management (target six); and (ii) number of health facilities provided with Ebola preparedness equipment and supplies (including hand-washing, thermometers and personal protective equipment) (target twelve). |
