| Project Detail |
Burkina Faso faces major challenges and issues, with a predominantly young population and significant underemployment among young people, particularly young women. This reality is a real challenge in itself, but it can also be an asset, as it gives young people a vital role as a force for production and innovation. Vocational training, youth integration and employment, and more generally, youth engagement in society are considered major development issues for the country. The high proportion of unemployed youth requires strengthening employability and professional integration mechanisms, including by promoting opportunities for partnerships with the private sector and civil society actors. At the same time, Burkina Faso has embarked on a process of evolving towards a green economy, the primary challenge of which is food security. Many stakeholders are working to transform the economy into a green economy, based on green and greening professions, green entrepreneurship, and the creation of green jobs. This challenge also constitutes a priority for intervention and funding for several of Burkina Fasos technical and financial partners, including the European Union, through Team Europe Initiative 2 Green Deal for Youth. The BenkadiBaara project – All Together for Youth Employment! is part of this context. Its overall objective is to promote the development of a green economy that generates decent jobs for young people. This objective reflects the expected impact of the momentum initiated within the framework of Team Europe Initiative 2, whose specific objective is to promote green employment for young women and men for the sustainable development of the intervention regions. Thus, the intervention aims to contribute to reducing youth unemployment in the affected areas. It aims to improve the chances of survival and development of formal and informal businesses in the green economy. From its inception, the project will ensure the use of systems transformation approaches that will enable young people to find their place in society and the economy, thus contributing to the emergence of a more resilient, dynamic, and agile society that will improve well-being in a fragile environment. The intervention is located in the triangle Ouagadougou – Koudougou – Dédougou – Bobo Dioulasso, the countrys breadbasket, housing around 10% of Burkina Fasos internally displaced persons and within which an increasingly large influx of internally displaced persons is anticipated. Direct beneficiaries are estimated at 45,000 young women and men aged 16 to 35. Particular attention is paid to young people, particularly girls, aged 16 to 24 who are of an age to enter the labor market. The project specifically targets 5,000 internally displaced and vulnerable youth, particularly people with disabilities, single mothers, and orphans. |
