Guatemala Project Notice - Implementation Of A Biofactory For The Use Of Fruit Products, Chichicastenango, El Quiche

Project Notice

PNR 69950
Project Name Implementation of a biofactory for the use of fruit products, Chichicastenango, El Quiche
Project Detail In Chipacá Primero and neighboring communities in the municipality of Chichicastenango, agriculture is currently being affected by various factors that put the populations food supply at risk, a situation that is seeking to improve with organic agriculture. Chichicastenango is considered a national producer of quality apples. Chipacá Primero, located on the banks of the Motagua micro-basin, has microclimates suitable for the production of fruit trees. The application of good agricultural practices promotes and improves soil health. The increase in the market for non-organic products affects both the international and national markets. They demand a large amount of healthy, safe, and nutritious food, which is creating strong opportunities for biofertilizers, where bacteria, fungi, and algae are the main components of biofertilizers. They reduce dependence on inorganic fertilizers based on chemical products and provide better alternatives.Ecological soil management techniques improve soil fertility, plant tolerance, and crop productivity while ensuring safety and are effective even in semi-arid conditions. Coinachi, with Global Gap Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Certification, implements innovative technology that allows for sustainable agricultural productivity improvements to reduce environmental impact and promote adaptation to climate change. The production and use of organic fertilizer gives all of the cooperatives producer members the opportunity to do so, and secondly, to reach other producers by teaching them about the benefits obtained from the application of organic products. Biofertilizers are increasingly in demand in both national and international markets and are attractively priced for producers. They help reduce pollution of the air, aquifers, subsoils, and the organisms in the environment where they carry out their production process, with the intention of generating a sustainable process over time. These practices would generate profitability. Today, many consumers are looking for safer and more environmentally friendly products, since the excessive use of agrochemicals poses significant health risks.
