Project Detail |
In the West Bank, the limited and intermittent water supply poses a real challenge. The Morlaix metropolitan area pledged in late 2022 to help the Jalazone refugee camp improve water resource management by building a reservoir. CONTEXT Since the Oslo Accords, and even more so since the Gaza conflict, Palestine has been 80% dependent on Israel for its drinking water supply. Palestinian water is rationed and even cut off during the summer. Sanitation networks are dilapidated and incomplete, and despite the expertise of water unions, the resources to better manage their networks are lacking. DESCRIPTION The Jalazone camp receives between 50 and 68 liters of water per person per day, with frequent outages. Water is supplied once a week, and residents store it in individual tanks. The construction of a reservoir will help regulate the water supply and limit outages for Jalazone and the surrounding villages. The poorly maintained and old sewers regularly overflow during rainy seasons, and rehabilitation will address the most urgent needs. |
