Project Detail |
Access to drinking water and improved sanitation are priorities for the Department of Kédougou, which has little modern infrastructure in rural areas and limited water resources. CONTEXT The Kédougou region faces challenges related to limited access to drinking water , difficult water resource management and insufficient sanitation infrastructure . In rural areas, in the Kédougou region, access rates to an improved water source and improved sanitation remain among the lowest in the country (MEA/CPCSP, 2022): 72.1% and 29.3% respectively. Groundwater resources and the level of service (hand pumps, etc.) are also lower than elsewhere. DESCRIPTION The SPEAKI project aims to improve the living conditions of local populations by ensuring sustainable access to drinking water and appropriate sanitation services. The goal is to improve access to water and sanitation through the construction of water infrastructure, improved toilets, and capacity building for local residents, elected officials, and technicians. This is taking place within the context of regular exchanges on these topics between the Isère and Kédougou departments and middle school students from both regions. |
