Project No. SCSC_205_2024A Project Title Policies, standards, and best practices for recycling of plastic intended to contact with foods to reduce marine plastic waste among APEC economies Project Status Project in Implementation The environmental leakage of food contact plastic products is one of the main causes of marine plastic pollution. Strengthening the recycling and reuse of plastic products, especially ‘closed-loop recycling’, is an effective way to reduce plastic pollution and marine waste. This project will collect policies, standards, best practices, and development plans regarding the use of recycled plastics intended to contact with foods through a questionnaire survey. Additionally, a seminar will be organized to exchange the full lifecycle experience, challenges and risks associated with recycled plastics in food packaging, particularly focusing on food safety risks, which will provide valuable references for the formulation of policies or standards for recycled food contact plastics, especially for economies that do not allow the use of recycled plastics in food packaging. The project will actively promote stakeholders (government, manufacturers, consumers, etc.) to change the way they produce, consume plastics, and manage plastic waste. |
