Project Detail |
ASCENT Mozambique is the third phase of the World Banks support to the Energy for All program in Mozambique, following Mozambique Energy for All (ProEnergia, (P165453)) and Sustainable Energy and Broadband Access in Rural Mozambique Project (ProEnergia Plus (P175295)), and is part of the second phase of the Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation Multi-phase Approach (ASCENT MPA, (P175295)). It will include the following components: (1) Increasing access to on-grid electrification: Scale-up of on-grid connections through last mile connectivity and MV network extension by financing the design, procurement of materials, and construction works required to bring electricity to households, businesses, and public and community facilities in the project target areas, including rehabilitation and upgrade of low-to-medium voltage distribution lines and substations; (2) Increasing access to off-grid electrification and clean cooking: Support development of off-grid solutions such as solar home systems, mini-grids, mesh grid and clean cooking solutions for households, public institutions and productive uses in remote rural areas where off-grid solutions represent the most cost-effective long-term technology, in coordination with the private sector; (3) Utility digitalization and operational performance improvement, including implementation of digital technological solutions; (4) Technical Assistance and Implementation Support for MIREME, EDM, and FUNAE: Technical assistance and capacity building on project implementation, planning, electrification, environmental and social safeguards, and renewable energy procurement.
