Project Detail |
Project Jupiter will integrate distributed energy resources (DER) such as rooftop solar and residential batteries at scale within WA’s main electricity system, the South West Interconnected System (SWIS), accelerating opportunities for WA households to join virtual power plants (VPPs) and participate in the energy transition. Need In WA, 40% of all residential houses have rooftop solar, with around 30,000 new systems installed each year. As household battery adoption grows, more WA homes are generating and storing energy than ever before. The increased use of solar and other DER in the WA electricity system, though providing opportunities to generate additional value, also adds complexity to balancing supply and demand in the SWIS, which is essential for maintaining power system security, reliability and affordability. There is a need to better co-ordinate DER with the system, network and market, which is possible through virtual power plants (VPPs), and will enable more customers in the SWIS to install DER, ensuring both customers and the system benefit from its capabilities. |
