Project Detail |
The proposal includes a set of activities related to community strengthening and coffee plantation improvement, installation of means to improve the quality of the green coffee product and beekeeping production, as a productive strategy generating extra economic income, as a counterpart to coffee monoculture and of important influence for the recovery of soils, the protection of forests and biodiversity in the area, where many sources of the waters or tributaries of the Yacambú River are located, a coffee-growing area par excellence, where small producers generally live with productive areas no greater than 2.5 hectares. In view of the boom in the increase of the agricultural frontier without due control and lack of advice or ignorance of the regulations inherent to environmental protection, the lack of application of good agricultural practices and the dependence of a family economy converted into a vicious circle dependent on monocultureof coffee with gross income once a year; it is proposed to incorporate beneficiary families into a capacity-building program in environmental, agroecological, agroforestry, and beekeeping aspects, with an emphasis on improving the quality of the green coffee produced, seeking to obtain a differentiated or specialty product. Likewise, the following activities will be implemented: the preparation and application of organic fertilizer and agricultural bioinputs as an agroecological alternative, production of community nursery plants, for the subsequent improvement of coffee farms and protective zones of the basins sources and tributaries, as well as the installation of bee hives as a crucial alternative for strengthening production, protection, and increase of forestry in the basin at its source waters and as a contribution to improving the environment and quality of life in the communities. |
