The project is embarking on conserving 860 hectares of tribal land which is also a critical water catchment that host the source of the three rivers (Aero river, Silolo river, Tabaa river and Kwai river) in North Malaita. The overall objective of the project is support GWAABUKI Conservation Network to have a conserve tribal land with supported livelihood alternative generate through PES and smart agriculture practices. Project Components are: Land use plan, conservation plan and monitoring plan develop for Gwaabuki Conservation Network Area Biological assessment/survey Trainings on smart agriculture and rangers Conservation plan and Monitoring plan Two rangers guide house established The expected outputs are: 1. A land use plan is complete and use to guide the land use (including conservation and land use areas ) in the three lands 2. Biological information on the land is available to both the tribes and stakeholders for decision making and actions 3. Conservation and monitoringplan for the conservation project is develop for 860 conservation area 4. Water catchment is managed and activities in the critical areas are control. 5. Trainings completed and 30 rangers acquire skills on how to monitor land use activities, conservation, people acquire sustainable land use skills and knowledge 6. 60 farmers from 3 tribes are train with smart agriculture skills |
