Project Detail |
Since the Maldives consists of approximately 1,200 islands and most settlements and critical infrastructure are located near the coast, coastal erosion is becoming more apparent and is expected to further accelerate due to Climate Change impacts. In addition to natural conditions, anthropogenic landform alteration through development is also believed to be contributing to coastal erosion by degrading natural wave protection and drainage functions. In response to these issues, this project aims to strengthen coordination among relevant organizations to formulate national-level policies and specific measures for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), establish a community-driven coastal maintenance and management system based on the ICZM plan, and develop long-term wave, beach, coral reef, and land use management systems. The project will support the establishment of a long-term monitoring system for waves, beaches, coral reefs, and land use. |
