Project Detail |
The agro-pastoral industry is a key industry in Mongolia, and with the countrys economic growth rate slowing down recently due to the impact of falling mineral prices, the agro-pastoral industry is positioned as a sector that will play a major role in the countrys industrial diversification. It is necessary to establish an effective mechanism that contributes to the improvement of cultivation techniques of small- and medium-scale farmers and the expansion of vegetable production in order to improve domestic self-sufficiency, but at present, farming methods are mainly based on traditional open-field cultivation, and yields and the types of vegetables that can be cultivated are limited. Through a series of activities based on the market-oriented agricultural promotion (SHEP approach) according to the characteristics of the target areas, this project aims to strengthen the capacity of small and medium-sized horticultural farmers engaged in family farming and local government officials in charge of agriculture, and establish an effective mechanism for market-oriented agricultural promotion that will contribute to expanding vegetable production. With this, we aim to strengthen the food supply and security of vegetables. [Overall Goal] Market-oriented agriculture will be widely implemented in Mongolia to strengthen vegetable food supply and security. [Project Purpose] An effective mechanism for the promotion of market-oriented agriculture, which contributes to the promotion of domestic vegetable production, will be established. Outcome Output 1 An implementation system for the SHEP approach tailored to regional characteristics will be established. Output 2 The capacity of agricultural staff and implementers of relevant institutions to implement the SHEP approach will be improved. Output 3 Technical guidance based on the SHEP Approach will be provided to target farmers. Output 4 Draft extension strategies for the promotion of market-oriented agriculture will be developed and presented. |
