Project Notice

PNR 68923
Project Name Project for Strengthening Human Resource Development of Engineering and Technology for Industry Development in Lao PDR
Project Detail In Laos, the share of mining and construction in the economic structure has been gradually increasing along with modernization, and the countrys government has identified the mining and construction industry as a driver of economic growth in the 8th National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2016-2020). Under these circumstances, employment opportunities in factories of Japanese and foreign companies and public infrastructure construction projects are increasing due to soaring labor costs in neighboring countries, and the supply chain in the region is being restructured, creating a need for high-quality engineering personnel. However, due to the low level of expertise and technology among Laotian engineers, foreigners are often employed in the engineering and middle management positions, resulting in a vicious cycle of poor opportunities for Laotian engineers to gain on-the-job experience and the failure to nurture local companies. Education The government of Laos has positioned the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Laos as a priority center and plans to improve facilities, equipment, and teaching materials in the fields of natural science and engineering. This cooperation is intended to help improve the quality of the education and training programs at the National University of Laos. This cooperation aims to improve the quality of undergraduate Education programs in the target fields and contribute to the development of engineering human resources who can contribute to industrial development in Laos by conducting necessary experiments and practical training, graduation research with verification, appropriate use and management of equipment, and practical Education programs incorporating industry-university collaboration in three fields of engineering (electrical and electronics, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering) at the National University of Laos. We will contribute to the development of engineering human resources that will contribute to the development of industry in the country.
