Project for Integrated Energy Master Plan towards Sustainable Carbon Neutral Society |

Laos has been promoting the development of power sources utilizing clean resources and exporting electricity to neighboring countries, with 80% of the electricity generated in the country being exported. Future electricity demand trends will be greatly influenced by the creation of untapped industries in addition to existing industries. It is necessary to set up a policy framework with clear goals to mitigate risks by exploring potential domestic electricity demand and diversifying the market, as well as to export clean electricity, which is expected to contribute to a low-carbon and decarbonized society in neighboring countries in the Mekong region. This project aims to contribute to the development of a long-term energy transition master plan to achieve a carbon-neutral society in Lao PDR, which will be formulated and approved, and to promote a policy framework and national development plan to realize a carbon-neutral society. (1) Overall Goal The policy framework and national development plan for the realization of a carbon-neutral society will be promoted by the Lao government. (2) Project Purpose A long-term energy transition master plan to realize a carbon-neutral society will be approved in Laos and reflected in policies. (3) Output The master plan will be developed and the goals will be shared so that related organizations can act in cooperation. |
