The city of Luang Prabang, a World Heritage Site district in northern Laos, is experiencing a rapid increase in tourism. The government is committed to establishing Luang Prabang as a sustainable tourism hub, but at this time there is no long-term vision or plan for sustainable urban development and urban transportation. In addition, there are many other issues that need to be resolved in the short to medium term, such as rampant on-street parking in the World Heritage Area and the resulting loss of scenic beauty, and the difficulty of walking due to the lack of width and discontinuity of the sidewalks. This project aims to strengthen the planning and implementation capacity of government agencies involved in urban transportation in the World Heritage Area of Luang Prabang and surrounding areas. With this, the project aims to realize transportation projects that will help the target area develop as a sustainable tourist city. (1) Overall Goal: Priority projects will be implemented based on the Urban Transportation Master Plan 1 developed for Luang Prabang to develop as a sustainable tourist city. (2) Project Purpose: The capacity of government agencies involved in urban transportation in Luang Prabang, a tourist city, to formulate plans and implement projects will be improved. (3) Outcome: Output 1 (4) Outcome: A master plan for urban transportation will be developed through the Luang Prabang Transportation Council2 with a view to the urban structure in 2045. Output 2 (4) Project: A pilot project to promote safe, secure, comfortable, and people-centered spaces in the World Heritage Area was planned and implemented. Output 3 Pilot project to establish a highly convenient transportation system for both residents and tourists connecting the World Heritage Area and the surrounding areas will be planned and implemented. |
