Project Detail |
Laos health indicators, such as under-five mortality and maternal mortality, have improved, but they have not yet reached the SDGs targets, and health services face many challenges. In particular, there is a serious shortage of health personnel in both quantity and quality, and the uneven distribution of personnel between the capital and rural areas remains an issue. Based on the licensing system for health personnel, which JICA has been continuously supporting the Lao governments efforts, this project aims to implement training for nurses and midwives under the continuing education system by strengthening the legal framework for license registration of nurses and midwives throughout Laos and its implementation, establishing a framework for a continuing education system as a requirement for license renewal, and strengthening the training implementation system for continuing education for newly graduated nurses. This will contribute to the first license renewal of newly graduated nurses and midwives. [Overall goal] Newly graduated nurses and midwives will have their licenses renewed for the first time. [Project purpose] Training for nurses and midwives will be implemented under the continuing education system. [Outcomes] Outcome 1 The legal framework for license registration of nurses and midwives and its implementation will be strengthened. Output 2: The framework for the continuing education system as a requirement for license renewal is established. Output 3: The training implementation system for continuing education for new graduate nurses is strengthened. |
