In its Nine-Year Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Development Strategy (2022-2030), the Lao government has set a goal of providing a 24-hour safe water supply to 90% of the population living in urban areas by 2030. In the third phase of the project, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Department of Water Supply (DWS) of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MEPT) in the enforcement, monitoring, and management of the Water Supply Act and other laws and regulations. The project also aims to build a framework for collaboration between the DPWT and the DWS to formulate a water supply facility development plan, and to systematize a sustainable program for human resource development in water supply. [Overall Goal] Capacity for management, planning, and operation of the water supply sector will be improved in the national and prefectural governments. [Project Purpose] Sustainable systems for improving the management, planning, and operational capacity of the water supply sector will be strengthened in the country and in each prefecture. Outcome. Output 1 Capacity of DWS in water supply administration for law enforcement, monitoring and management will be strengthened. Output 2 The coordination between DPWT and DWS on the feasibility of water supply facility development will be strengthened through capacity building of both parties in basic planning of water supply facilities. Output 3 Capacity building programs for water utilities will be systematized in a sustainable manner. |
