Project Detail |
The project aims to support the National School Feeding Program (NSFP), the largest social safety net for children in Jordan. The NSFP is led by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and involves the provision of nutritious snacks to vulnerable Jordanian and refugee children living in pockets of poverty across the country. WFP provides financial, technical and operational support to the NSFP. The initiative specifically supports the Healthy School Feeding Modality (HSFM) component. In particular, the proposed intervention would allow its expansion to refugee children in camps as a priority, given the reduced monthly food assistance and deteriorating food security levels in the camps. The HSFM also includes a community-based approach to the food system in which production, processing and consumption are integrated, strengthening the local economic fabric not only through the inclusion of local producers and traders, but also by creating income-generating opportunities for refugee and Jordanian women. In this sense, the initiative also contributes to the economic empowerment of the women involved.
