Mali Project Notice - JIGITUGU+: Support For Strengthening The Skills Of Young Rural Women And Men In The Agricultural Sector

Project Notice

PNR 68693
Project Name JIGITUGU+: Support for strengthening the skills of young rural women and men in the agricultural sector
Project Detail Through this integrated project, Switzerland aims to contribute to addressing the challenges of rural areas in Mali by mobilizing local resources. It aims to strengthen resilience, promote education and employment for young people and women, and improve food security. By integrating these groups into adapted educational, professional and agricultural systems, the project aims to have a sustainable impact, in particular by increasing incomes, promoting agroecological practices and strengthening local institutions. Mali faces major challenges: security instability, the effects of climate change, the economic crisis and structural weaknesses, particularly in education and rural development. These problems exacerbate social inequalities, particularly in rural areas where 70% of the population depends on agriculture. The situation is worrying: 70% of rural adults have no level of education, and 31% of young people aged 15 to 24 are neither in employment, education nor training. The agricultural sector, a pillar of the Malian economy, remains a strategic lever despite the impacts of climate change and poorly modernized practices. It offers strong potential for strengthening food security and integrating young people and women into diversified value chains. The JIGITUGU project, which means hope for a sustainable future, combines vocational training, technological innovation and social inclusion to address these challenges. It targets rural areas where Switzerland is present, modernizes agriculture, creates economic opportunities and strengthens the resilience of vulnerable populations, particularly young people and women. Objectives Contribute to the economic autonomy of young people and women in rural areas by improving access to non-formal education and promoting entrepreneurship, while strengthening their resilience and active participation in local development.
