Project Detail |
Haiti is facing a protracted crisis. Access to the territories for humanitarian actors is shrinking. Since November 2024, commercial flights serving Port-au-Prince have been stopped until further notice. Populations in need of assistance are increasing. The support of the humanitarian office will facilitate airlifts for vital access to affected populations, the deployment of personnel, the transport of vital goods and medical evacuations. The security situation in the country is deteriorating in a context of a protracted multifaceted crisis. Critical humanitarian needs and populations in need of assistance are increasing. Access is a challenge. The blockage of access roads under the control of gangs and the suspension since November 2024 until further notice of commercial flights to Port-au-Prince are hindering the movement of people and goods and hampering humanitarian assistance. In response, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) has set up the only air support serving Port-au-Prince. This airlift connects it to the rest of the national territory and constitutes crucial support to fill this gap by providing uninterrupted access to humanitarian organizations. In a context of a freeze on American funds, Switzerlands contribution alongside other donors to this 3-month flash appeal launched by UNHAS remains crucial to ensure the provision of assistance by humanitarian organizations to populations in need and to reach the territories where they are concentrated, carry out possible medical evacuations and safe relocations. Objectives To provide the humanitarian community with reliable air transport services to enable and support an effective and efficient humanitarian response. |
