Project Detail |
Agriculture and livestock farming in Mongolia is the second most important industry in the country, accounting for about 10% of GDP after mining and employing about 30% of the workforce. Livestock farming in particular is attracting attention as a key sector in the countrys industrial diversification. Traditionally, meat has been the staple food, and livestock plays an important role in supporting peoples livelihoods. Even today, about 30% of the countrys households live traditional nomadic lives in close contact with livestock and eat livestock products that are processed and produced in unhygienic environments. As a result, zoonotic diseases, in which pathogens originating from animals cause serious diseases in humans, have occurred, and their control is an issue that must be addressed as a top priority for the country. This cooperation will function as a platform in Mongolia to strengthen laboratory diagnostic capabilities for zoonotic diseases such as tuberculosis and glanders (note), conduct epidemiological surveys, and take disease prevention measures based on the One Health approach. This will help establish a One Health research platform for future evidence-based tuberculosis and glanders control activities, and contribute to the implementation of optimized, evidence-based tuberculosis and glanders control activities |
