Installation of community batteries across 15 Transport sites, including commuter car parks, rail network support buildings, and electric bus depots. Need Community batteries are a promising solution to enable the storage of distributed renewable energy for later use, reduce distribution network constraints, and put downward pressure on electricity prices. The October 2022 Federal Budget provided $171 million for ARENA to deliver the Community Batteries for Household Solar Budget Measure (Budget Measure) to deploy 342 community batteries across Australia. NSW public transport networks are supporting the shift towards new, sustainable modes of Transport, including the introduction of public electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities and the electrification of bus depots. This transition brings with it many challenges, including the ability of the local distribution network to support increased electrical demand from this new infrastructure. |
