Project Detail |
Restoration of forest ecosystems in the canton of Siou The forestry sector diagnosis clearly shows the dependence of local populations on the forest and its resources. It also shows the major issues related to logging and the role of forests in reducing land degradation, wildfires, the adverse effects of climate change and the conservation of biodiversity. In addition, the Kara region is one of the least covered in forest resources (17.04%). As a result, the forest ecosystem restoration project in the canton of Siou aims to address many current challenges, including: - extending national coverage to combat deforestation, forest degradation and climate change; - protecting and conserving forest resources through the active participation of local populations; - controlling land degradation due to unsustainable agricultural practices and loss of biodiversity;improving the skills and living conditions of populations living near forest areas; - creating income-generating activities; - creating small and medium-sized forestry enterprises based on forest plantations, green jobs and the fight against poverty, especially for women and young people. Specifically, this project will: - Organize educational days for agricultural producers and students on the importance of trees and the economic potential of NTFPs; - Support and assist producers in adopting agroforestry on at least 50 ha of cultivated plots; - Support 2 womens groups in the production of Moringa leaf powder and seed oil; - Support the restoration of at least 10 ha of degraded forest ecosystems through protection and assisted natural regeneration. |
