Project No. OFWG_102_2024A Project Title Strengthening Small-Scale Aquaculture (SSA) Governance for Food Security and Sustainable Development in APEC Region Project Status Project in Implementation Six of the top ten global aquaculture producers are from APEC. Small-scale aquaculture (SSA) plays a crucial role in food security contributing 17% of the animal protein valued on 88 million ton (49%) and offers direct and indirect employment to about 70 millions of people in the world. The need to strengthen SSA governance is observed to face complexities in Regulatory framework, organization and participation, environmental impacts. Improving the governance of SSA is essential. This project tackles these challenges through two approaches: Develop a comprehensive toolkit, equipping farmers with essential knowledge and best governance practices. Secondly, we foster collaboration and knowledge sharing through multi-stakeholder workshops, bringing together farmers, communities, and experts, to facilitate co- creation of solutions, peer learning, and constructive conflict resolution. The project aims to strengthening institutions, simplifying regulations, promoting organization and participation, ensuring responsible resource management, disease control, and fair stakeholder engagement and support the SSFA roadmap. |
