Philippines Project Notice - Extending Climate And Disaster Risk And Resilience To Community Level In The Philippines

Project Notice

PNR 67753
Project Name Extending climate and disaster risk and resilience to community level in the Philippines
Project Detail This small research activity aims to understand and address climate risks and adaptation options in specific regions of the Philippines, particularly Guinayangan, Quezon Province, and Batangas. The project seeks to identify climate risks and how they are perceived by farmers, contextualise current and future adaptation decisions, and support systems-based planning for climate resilience. It also aims to fill knowledge gaps and provide policy recommendations to enhance local adaptation efforts. The Philippines is highly susceptible to climate shocks, including typhoons, flooding, drought, and high heat events. Building systemic resilience in the countrys food systems is critical to mitigate these risks. With significant gaps in knowledge and action at the local level, where agro-ecological and socio-economic heterogeneity impacts how different types of farmers perceive and experience climate risk, this research aims to fill these gaps by providing detailed mapping and analysis. Expected outcomes Enhancing understanding of local climate risks and social equity through detailed mapping and analysis in selected communities. Developing a comprehensive theory of change for scaling appropriate climate adaptation strategies in the Philippines. Mapping systems and conducting stakeholder dialogues to integrate equity objectives into climate risk assessment and adaptation planning. Collaborating with local institutions like the University of the Philippines Los Baños and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) to build local capacity and support climate adaptation initiatives.
