Project Detail |
In Bhutan, the infection rate of Helicobacter pylori exceeds 70%, and drug-resistant Helicobacter pylori and highly pathogenic Helicobacter pylori are prevalent. It is the number one cause of cancer death by site in the country, and the third highest death rate in the world, making gastric cancer control a major issue. However, Bhutan does not have sufficient rapid and accurate testing and diagnostic techniques and implementation systems, such as Helicobacter pylori testing and upper endoscopy, which are necessary for early diagnosis of gastric cancer. In addition, it is urgent to establish drug resistance susceptibility tests suitable for Bhutan to prevent the emergence and spread of new drug-resistant bacteria and to provide appropriate eradication treatment. In addition, due to the chronic shortage of medical personnel, the training of specialists is also an urgent issue. This project will develop and introduce rapid drug susceptibility tests and rapid antigen testing methods suitable for the country, train upper endoscopy specialists and instructors, and promote public understanding of eradication treatment and gastric cancer. Through this, we aim to establish a system to provide appropriate testing, diagnosis, and eradication treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection. (1) Overall goal: Testing, diagnosis, and eradication treatment will be carried out nationwide in accordance with the guidelines for Helicobacter pylori infection. (2) Project Purpose: A system is established to provide appropriate testing, diagnosis, and eradication treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection. (3) Outputs: Output 1: A rapid drug susceptibility test suitable for Bhutan is developed. Output 2: A rapid test method for Helicobacter pylori infection is established at RCDC. Output 3: Endoscopists capable of diagnosing gastric cancer and paramedical personnel capable of properly operating endoscopic equipment are trained. Output 4: Residents understanding of Helicobacter pylori eradication treatment and gastric cancer is promoted. |
