In urban areas of Bangladesh, buildings are rapidly becoming taller and denser due to rapid economic development in recent years, but this shows that earthquake countermeasures and structural safety in normal times are not ensured. At least four building collapses have occurred in the Dhaka metropolitan area alone in the past 15 years. One example is the 2013 building collapse near Dhaka (Rana Plaza collapse), which resulted in illegal construction and illegal additions to a tenant building that housed a garment factory, resulting in the loss of over 1,130 lives. Although various measures have been taken in the wake of this accident, there are still many cases where the design and construction of buildings are not carried out in accordance with building standards, and ensuring the quality of design and construction of buildings that comply with building standards. However, this is an urgent need for people to carry out economic activities and live their lives safely and healthily. This cooperation is aimed at the National Capital Region Development Corporation, which is in charge of construction administration for private buildings in the Dhaka metropolitan area, to establish an architectural design review process, improve inspection and supervision systems, raise awareness among stakeholders such as owners and contractors, and By developing the necessary human resources, we will support the improvement of the safety-related design and construction quality of new private buildings and contribute to reducing the disaster risk of buildings in the countrys urban areas. |
