Project Detail |
Nepal The Tarai Plain in the southern part of the country is blessed with fertile soil and Sustainable Water Resources Management and accounts for 50% of the countrys total cultivated area and 80% of the total irrigated area, producing rice, wheat, vegetables, and other crops. The government of the country has been working for many years to improve irrigation facilities, but the operation and maintenance of facilities by government agencies and water users associations, appropriate water use, and collection of water use fees have been insufficient, and irrigation facilities have not been able to function fully. This cooperation aims to develop a model for the promotion of irrigated agriculture (see note) through joint efforts by the federal, provincial, and local governments and water users associations to improve the operation and maintenance of irrigation facilities and farming practices in the Kankai Irrigation District, thereby contributing to the dissemination and implementation of sustainable irrigated agriculture promotion in large-scale irrigation districts in the plain. The project will contribute to the dissemination and implementation of sustainable irrigated agriculture promotion in large-scale irrigated areas in the Plain. (Note) A model that promotes sustainable maintenance and management of irrigation facilities and farming activities to achieve equitable and appropriate water allocation. |
