Cambodia Project Notice - The Project For Capacity Development On Water Pollution Control

Project Notice

PNR 67660
Project Name The Project for Capacity Development on Water Pollution Control
Project Detail Cambodia has maintained one of the highest economic growth rates in Asia, 7% per year, due to an increase in foreign investment capital, and its population continues to grow. With such rapid urbanization and economic development in recent years, the negative impact on the environment in cities and urban areas has been increasing. In particular, in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, untreated wastewater is discharged into the surrounding rivers and lakes, and the environmental burden exceeds the natural purification capacity, leading to deterioration of water quality, which has become a problem. This project aims to establish an appropriate monitoring and management system for surface water and wastewater in Phnom Penh Metropolitan Administration and the Plectonot River Basin by improving the accuracy and reliability of the environmental analysis laboratory test results, developing a system for monitoring and on-site inspection of surface water, improving the capacity to develop water quality management plans, and sharing good practices. We will build a system for monitoring and managing surface water and wastewater. With this, we aim to promote measures to improve the water environment. [Overall Goal] Based on the Water Pollution Prevention Cabinet Order, measures to improve the water environment will be promoted. [Project Purpose] An appropriate monitoring and management system for surface water and wastewater will be established based on the Water Pollution Prevention Cabinet Order. Outcome Output 1 Accuracy and reliability of test results from environmental analysis laboratories will be improved. Output 2 A system for monitoring and on-site inspection of surface water in the target water bodies will be established. Output 3 Improved planning capacity for water quality management Output 4 Good practices in the implementation of the Cabinet Order on Water Pollution Control are shared with stakeholders, including local governments.
