Project Notice

PNR 67654
Project Name Horticulture Value Chain Promotion Project (Phase2)
Project Detail Agriculture is the main industry in Uzbekistan, and cotton in particular is a major crop, accounting for about 30% of the total crop production area. The government of Uzbekistan is working to diversify crops and strengthen export capabilities by shifting to production of horticultural crops such as vegetables and fruits, and by strengthening related industries (horticultural crop value chain), including production, processing, and distribution. However, there are issues such as a lack of agricultural machinery suitable for horticultural crop production, inadequate equipment and environment, and insufficient distribution facilities, among which the lack of related equipment due to lack of funds is a major obstacle to strengthening the value chain. This project will provide two-step loans through financial institutions in Uzbekistan to farmers and agriculture-related companies engaged in the production and processing of horticultural crops. At the same time, the project aims to improve access to finance and strengthen the horticultural crop value chain through capacity building support for these financial institutions and agricultural support for end-users. Through this support, the project aims to develop the agricultural sector by strengthening export capacity and promoting employment. Objective of the Project This project aims to improve access to finance and strengthen the horticultural value chain through the provision of two-step loans to farmers and agricultural enterprises engaged in the production, processing, and distribution of horticultural crops, capacity building of participating financial institutions, and support for end-user farmers, thereby enhancing export potential, income, and employment. The project will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector by enhancing export potential, improving incomes, and promoting employment. Project Details (1) Two-step loans Provision of medium- to long-term financing to farmers and agribusinesses engaged in the production, processing, and distribution of horticultural crops. 2) Consulting services Support for capacity building of participating financial institutions (including strengthening loans for small and medium-sized businesses), project supervision support, support for end-users and others in farming (fruit, vegetables, quality), development of agricultural promotion strategies, support for environmental and social considerations, etc.
