Project Detail |
The Indonesian Ministry of Health cites acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV), tuberculosis, malaria, dengue fever, influenza, and avian influenza as the infectious diseases that pose a challenge and remain poorly controlled. In Malaysia, infectious diseases remain a major threat, accounting for about 13% of deaths. This project aims to identify substances with anti-tuberculosis and anti-dengue fever activity from bioresource extracts in both countries, optimize the structure of lead compounds with anti-malaria and anti-dysentery amoeba activity, and conduct three preclinical studies to establish a research system in drug discovery for infectious diseases at research institutes in both countries. The goal is to strengthen the research system for realizing drug discovery for infectious diseases. (1) Overall Goal The research system to realize drug discovery for infectious diseases will be strengthened in Indonesia and Malaysia. (2) Project Purpose Through joint research with Japanese research institutions, the structural optimization and preclinical testing of drugs for drug discovery for infectious diseases in Indonesia and Malaysia will be established. (3) Output Output 1 The capacity of researchers to conduct structural optimization of lead compounds at the implementing institutions will be improved and the research environment will be improved. Output 2 The ability of researchers to conduct preclinical studies to evaluate safety and efficacy of drugs will be improved and the research environment will be improved at the implementing institutions. Output 3 Capacity of researchers to screen target compounds and explore bioresource libraries will be improved and research environment will be enhanced through the identification of substances with anti-tuberculosis and anti-dengue activity from bioresource extracts (microorganisms, plants, etc.) in Indonesia and Malaysia. Output 4 The technical infrastructure and network for international collaboration on infectious disease drug discovery between Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia will be strengthened. |
