Fiji Islands Project Notice - The Project For The Reconstruction Of Tamavua-I-Wai Bridge

Project Notice

PNR 67599
Project Name the Project for the Reconstruction of Tamavua-i-wai Bridge
Project Detail Viti Levu, the largest island in the Fiji Islands, has the Queens Road, which connects the east and west of the island, is the only road through which large vehicles can pass, and is an important trunk road for transporting daily goods. The Tamabua-i-Way Bridge (90 meters long), which spans the same road, has suffered serious damage to its piers, not only due to damage to the road surface and structure due to overloaded vehicles, but also due to salt damage and driftwood during the cyclone. . Therefore, although emergency repairs are being carried out on the bridge from time to time, fundamental repairs have not yet been made, and there is a risk that it will collapse in the event of a strong cyclone. This cooperation aims to ensure safe and stable traffic, strengthen transportation capacity, and improve traffic safety by replacing the Tamabua i Wai Bridge over Queens Road, the most important arterial road on the outskirts of Suva, the capital of Viti Levu. This will contribute to strengthening the resilience of the countrys main roads against natural disasters caused by Climate Change and other factors.
