Project Detail |
As the transmission of the novel coronavirus spreads globally and is prolonged, countries in the Pacific region are also facing challenges arising from the weak transportation and communication infrastructure and limited medical resources that are unique to island nations. While a large number of human and resource resources are invested in strengthening waterfront measures to prevent community-acquired infections, the provision of essential health services to mothers and children and patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is stretched thin, and users are reluctant to receive medical care. In addition to Fiji, this project aims to build resilient health systems in Tonga, Kiribati, and Micronesia by strengthening health service delivery capacity during health crises and normal times so that essential health services can be delivered without delay even in future health crises. (1) Overall Goal: Health systems will be strengthened to cope with health crises in each of the four target countries. (2) Project Purpose Capacity for continuity of essential health services during health crises will be strengthened. (3) Output: Output 1: Policies and guidelines that incorporate the provision of essential health services during health crises will be developed. Output 2: Human resource capacity development is strengthened to ensure continuity of essential health services during health crises. Output 3: Capacity to utilize digital technology for essential health service delivery in digital technology pilot regions will be strengthened. Output 4: Networking among Pacific countries will be strengthened to share experiences and practices on the continuous provision of essential health services during health crises. |
