The GP-SAEP (Producers and Sustainable Food Systems Transformation) project aims to strengthen support for food systems transformation through agroecology in the Kasai-Oriental and Lonami region of DR Congo. It provides knowledge and tools to the development community to scale up integrated food systems transformation approaches, both in International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) investment projects and beyond.
The Democratic Republic of Congo was selected as one of the project’s beneficiary countries due to: (1) opportunities for direct synergies with investment projects in the region, including the IFAD-funded PADRIR project and the new Enabel project; (2) the prevalence of poverty with 60 million people; (3) the prevalence of malnutrition; and (4) exposure to climate shocks and stressors. |
