MSME promotion in the circular economy
One of the Algerian government’s key objectives is to make the country’s economy less dependent on the oil and gas industry. It also wants to boost the competitiveness of local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The government has recognised that green modernisation of Algerian businesses is important in order to protect ecosystems, biodiversity and natural resources and ensure that the local economy is competitive in the long term. Unchecked growth of MSMEs would increase pressure on local ecosystems and the associated social costs.
However, Algerian MSMEs lack the necessary competence in socially and environmentally conscious corporate management. Furthermore, professionals and entrepreneurs do not have the skills required to develop innovative, circular economy business models.
Objective
Micro, small and medium companies make greater use of innovative, circular economy business models.
Approach
The project operates in three areas of action:
First, it aims to boost the professional and personal skills of state institutions and promote innovative circular economy business models. The focus is on the strategic and institutional skills of the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production and other MSME support agencies.
Second, the project intends to develop methods and services to design innovative circular economy business models for MSMEs. This is to take place in the form of training modules and coaching sessions for the benefit of interested MSMEs, which will be disseminated by support agencies, incubators and chambers of commerce.
Third, the project aims to test out new sales channels for circular economy products and services of Algerian MSMEs. This trial of sales channels for technically sophisticated concepts will test the market potential. Ideally, it will prove to be cost-effective. |
