Project Detail |
The Project will tackle typical urban development problems that cities of the first wave of industrialization in northeast China often face – deteriorated water environment, inadequate urban connectivity and recurrent urban flooding. Solutions to these problems are critical to ensure transformation of these cities from “old industrial bases” into new urban agglomerations attractive to talents and new businesses, and to set their development on a more sustainable path. As part of efforts towards environmentally sustainable urban development, two pilot cities have been selected by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province, namely Anshan and Lingyuan. Success of the Project is anticipated to serve as a model for replication in other industrial cities across the region.
The Project comprises two components:
Component I in Anshan will: (i) ensure that the water quality of Nansha River attains Grade V, and (ii) resolve the long-standing waterlogging problem faced by urban areas along the Nansha River.
Component II in Lingyuan will: (i) enhance urban mobility and reduce people’s commute time, and (ii) strengthen the city’s flood protection level and resolve the recurring problem of waterlogging.
The objective of the Project is to support river restoration and ecological protection, as well as urban connectivity enhancement and associated urban flooding reduction in the participating cities. |
