Project Notice

PNR 66969
Project Name Good governance for an Ecuador with transparency and integrity
Project Detail In recent years, the Ecuadorian Government has been strongly committed to fighting corruption. Clear signs of this include the participatory National Development Plan for 2021 to 2025, which sets targets for integrity, transparency, accountability and public participation for the first time. The Government is also adhering to signed international agreements on anti-corruption measures, transparency and public participation. In addition, standards, plans and strategies have been developed to promote integrity and anti-corruption measures, and to strengthen the institutional framework. However, the key challenge consists of weak governance and the lack of public trust in the state. Public services are currently ineffective and the administration lacks integrity and transparency tools. In addition, the rule of law is weakened and there are few instruments which ensure public participation and accountability. Objective Governmental and non-governmental organisations implement measures that improve the publics trust in the state. Approach The project fosters good governance in Ecuador. To this end, it improves public services and promotes integrity and transparency tools. The project operates nationwide but focuses on eight regions, and works with political decision-makers, companies, opinion leaders, experts and public administration employees, as well as civil society and academia. The project is implementing the following measures: It improves the quality of public services for which there is strong public demand or which have a positive impact on the business climate. It develops tools that promote public integrity, and supports companies in improving their accountability, due diligence and integrity mechanisms. It creates instruments that promote transparency, access to information, accountability, public participation and the implementation of an integrity system in Ecuador.
