Workshop on Photometer Calibration: Utilizing LED Lights in Accordance with CIE 251:2023 Standard (Reference Spectrum L41) in Domestic Metrology Institutes

LED lamps have replaced incandescent ones worldwide due to their greater energy efficiency and longer lifespan. Including in APEC member economies, where the manufacture and import of general-purpose incandescent lamps are being banned. The adoption of LED lamps has led to a technical gap related to photometers used in measuring luminance and illuminance, as these are manufactured and calibrated using an incandescent lamp as a reference (CIE standard illuminant A). In January 2023, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) published the CIE 251:2023 standard, named “LED Reference Spectrum for Photometer Calibration”, which establishes a new LED reference spectrum (CIE L41) for photometer calibration.
A four-day in person workshop to explore both theoretical and practical experiences related to the use of the CIE reference spectrum L41 standard will be arranged. The workshop will be held on October 2025 and will gather specialists from metrology, lamp testing laboratories. |
