Women play important roles throughout the agriculture sector, despite being underrepresented in leadership roles in agri-industries. There are persistent barriers to women’s inclusion and equality in agricultural SMEs and value chains that require intentional efforts to overcome. While commitment to gender inclusion and equality is widespread, it can be difficult to solidify goals into actions.
In addition, as our leaders are very committed regionally and globally on sustainable development, women are the important contributors to realize those goals as it is the fact that women comprise 40 % of the global agricultural workforce — even as much as 50 percent in many regions.
The project aims to synthesize, review and analyse some best practices in terms of policies and actions in APEC region on Women’s participation to the global value chain of agricultural products toward sustainable development for possible scaling up by member economies. The project also targets a better understanding of gender inclusion, gender equality in agriculture sector, as well as the barriers women face within agriculture value chains so as to support policy-makers for Gender-Responsive Climate-Smart Policies promoting women’s roles and contributions towards transitioning to a low-carbon economy. |
