The First Conference on Strengthening Sustainable Growth and Resilience in Small-Scale Fisheries through Fishing Vessel Modernisation

Small-scale fisheries are vital for the livelihoods of coastal communities across APEC member economies yet many still rely on outdated vessels that lack efficiency and safety. This project promotes the modernization of these vessels to address key areas: environmental protection, by designing vessels that minimize their environmental impact and improve post-catch processing; food security and industrial advancement, through enhanced fishing productivity that supports local economies and sustainable growth; creating resilient and sustainable working environments, by developing safer, standardized vessels that improve working conditions; and productivity enhancement, by increasing operational efficiency, enabling fisheries to become more self-sufficient and economically viable.
This conference will provide a platform for networking and cooperation among APEC member economies, focusing on advancements in fishing vessel modernization and related technologies, identifying areas for improvement, and fostering future projects and technology exchange to ensure long-term sustainability in the regions small-scale fisheries. |
