| Project Detail | Project Name Supporting Safe Recovery of Travel and Tourism Project (Additional Financing) Project Number 55069-002 Country / Economy Cook Islands Project Status Approved Project Type / Modality of Assistance Grant The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved the ongoing Supporting Safe Recovery of Travel and Tourism Project on 29 October 2021 to (i) improve airport readiness through improvements to the Rarotonga Airport terminal, and (ii) improve health system readiness by refurbishing a primary healthcare facility and installing a medical waste treatment system. The additional financing will contribute to achieving the ongoing projects intended outcome by addressing cost overruns for civil works; supporting health screening aligned with the International Health Regulations (IHR) in handling public health and emergencies at airports; installation of a solar panel system to support the operation of the medical waste treatment plant and supporting womens participation in nontraditional technical and leadership roles. The additional financing will improve the Cook Islands resilience to cross-border health risks and the early detection of outbreaks of emerging and reemerging diseases for passengers entering the country by air. |
