The project is aligned to all the afore-mentioned R-NDS priority areas and to Vision 2040 priority of access to health and other basic services since its key focus is restoration of sanitation infrastructure in Juba which will ensure environmental sustainability in the city. In creating jobs, the project will contribute to the macroeconomic stability of the country through social and economic development. It’s focus on circular economy practices will contribute to realization of the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) framework.
Project Objectives
The project Development Objective is to improve access to urban sanitation services in Juba. The project aims to: i) develop an urban sanitation system in Juba; and ii) strengthen the capacity of sanitation sector institutions.
Beneficiaries
The project area is Juba city in South Sudan and will benefit about 80% of the households (about 361,000 people) residing within the targeted Blocks (Payams)of Juba, Kator and Munuki, where the population density is highest, with improved access to sanitation services. The three Payams of Juba cover an area of 50km2. The proposed improvements in sanitation, and the hygiene and sanitation education, will provide direct benefits to the residents, notably women who bear the brunt of poor health in households. In addition, some 10 sanitation facilities will be provided in selected secondary schools. The project will also provide organic fertilisers for farm use to at least 80 farmers. |
