The objective of the Enhancing Landscape and Ecosystem Management (ELEMENT) Project for India is to improve landscape management and increase benefits for targeted forest dependent communities in Tripura and Nagaland. There are five components to the project, the first component being strengthening capacities for integrated landscape management. This component includes four subcomponents: strengthening the capacity of participating states relevant institutions in participatory planning, implementation, and monitoring; strengthening capacity of participating states institutions for Research and Development (R&D) and value chain development; Strengthening the capacity of existing and new community institutions for decentralized natural resources management; and knowledge and information sharing on innovation. The second component is the restoring landscapes for improved ecosystem services. This component includes two subcomponents: developing community landscape management plans, and implementation of community landscape management plans in targeted catchments. The third component is the enhancing landscape-based value-chains for economic transformation. This component includes two subcomponents: agroforestry, forestry, and NTFP in value chain development and forest landscape enterprises and augmenting eco-tourism opportunities. The fourth component is the project management, monitoring, and evaluation. Finally, the fifth component is the Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC). Provision of immediate response to an Eligible Crisis or Emergency, as needed. This will include reallocation of loan proceeds from other components to provide immediate response (which may include recovery and reconstruction support) following an eligible crisis or emergency, as needed.To improve landscape management and increase benefits for targeted forest dependent communities in Tripura and Nagaland. |
