Project Detail | The Ghana cleanup project is part of the Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme, established by FCDO and implemented in partnership with UNCTAD. This program is funded by the UK Government through UK Aid. The project targets the not-yet-unlocked potential of discarded plastic waste by recovering Ocean-bound plastics and recycling them into valuable end products. The location of the project is the Kpeshie Lagoon and surrounding Labadi Municipality located in Accra, Ghana and confirmation of support has been received from the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LADMA) and the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA). The project aims to operate with both mechanical recycling and chemical recycling technologies whose end products are: i. Pyrolysis oil produced from mixed plastics purchased from aggregators (IRECOP) ii. Flakes produced from PET bottles recovered from the Labadi Municipality iii. Boards produced from the mixed plastics recovered from the Labadi Municipality |
