Project Detail |
At the heart of a partnership involving the AFD and Olympique Lyonnais (OL), the Dakar Sacré Cœur (DSC) club benefits from shared French expertise, enabling it to promote Africas vast sporting potential.
CONTEXT
The fourth edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be held in 2026 in Dakar, Senegal. This is the first time that an Olympic event has taken place on the African continent. At the same time, France is hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games (OPG) in Paris in 2024. This proximity of the calendar opens up the opportunity for enhanced cooperation around these two events. Beyond a privileged relationship between the organizing committees and the host cities, the aim is to drive Franco-Senegalese momentum around the professionalization of the sports sector.
DESCRIPTION
The project aims to consolidate the partnership between OL and the Dakar Sacré Cœur club and is structured around two major components:
Technical cooperation and expertise to support the implementation of the Dakar Sacré Cœur development program. The three key areas of this expertise focus on: i) the development of womens football; ii) the long-term structuring of the club; and iii) the strengthening of technical cooperation and the professionalization of sports careers.
Conducting studies to implement the clubs expansion projects. Various initiatives are planned, such as the introduction of a sports-study program, the deployment of multi-sports equipment, as well as the establishment of an institute dedicated to sports professions.
IMPACTS
Support the development of structuring football projects in order to promote sporting excellence on the African continent.
Promote womens football to encourage parity within clubs and promote equal opportunities.
Adapt the Olympique Lyonnais (OL) methodology to benefit its various partner clubs, in particular by mobilizing the experts of the OL Academy to support emerging talents.
Contribute to the creation of local know-how in order to perpetuate the clubs’ economic models and strengthen their long-term profits.
Improve training conditions and promote access to sports practice by setting up quality infrastructure and stimulating investment in the sports sector. |
