Project Detail |
Training the actors of the development of the bioeconomy in Benin is the ambition of the BIOVALOR project, winner of the first edition of the "Africa - France Academic Partnerships" program. Led by the University of Abomey-Calavi in ??Benin and the University of Lorraine, it aims to structure a training sector, from bachelors to doctorate, around the valorization of bioresources, bioprocesses and bioproducts.
CONTEXT
Benins economy is dominated by agriculture (70% of the working population, 33% of GDP). Densely populated and located on a transport route between Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast, southern Benin benefits from an environment that is favorable to innovation in agricultural development and the valorization of bioproducts.
The players in the flagship sectors (rice, pineapple, cashew) and orphan crops with high potential (shea, fonio, miraculous berry or sisré), promoted by the Beninese government, have worked closely with BIOVALOR teams to identify the skills sought and the scientific obstacles that are currently hindering the development of their sectors, and consequently the professional integration of graduates. At the same time, the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences of the University of Abomey-Calavi (FSA-UAC) has mobilized to align the content of its training programs with the needs of these priority economic sectors for the country.
DESCRIPTION
The BIOVALOR project aims to structure a lasting strategic partnership for higher education courses provided at the University of Abomey-Calavi: a professional, quality Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate program that is attractive at the national and international level, focused on the valorization of bioresources, bioprocesses and bioproducts. Its ambition is to train stakeholders in the development of the bioeconomy in Benin.
This project was selected as part of the first edition of the “Africa-France Academic Partnerships” program. This program is funded by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) via the French Development Agency (AFD). It is implemented by the National Research Agency (ANR) and Campus France with the support of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
