Project Detail |
Training to develop sustainable cotton production systems in Benin is the ambition of the PREFOSYC project, winner of the second edition of the "Africa - France Academic Partnerships" program. Led by the University of Parakou in Benin and the Higher School of International Agro-Development, it aims to structure a professional training program provided from masters to doctorate levels.
CONTEXT
The cotton sector is an important source of economic growth for Benin, which has become the leading cotton-producing country on the African continent since 2018.
The Beninese government has set itself the goal of continuing to increase production and moving towards the sustainable intensification of cotton. Its ambition? To make the sustainable development of this sector the main lever of its agroecological transition in a context of adaptation to climate change and with a view to strengthening the sustainability of crop and agropastoral systems.
Also, supporting the players in this sector is a priority. In a context of growth with strong economic and environmental challenges, the links to be established with professionals in the sector must be solid and meet their needs in order to ensure a place on the job market for trained young people.
DESCRIPTION
The PREFOSYC project aims to structure a lasting strategic partnership for higher education training provided at the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Parakou (UP) in Benin: a masters and doctoral training course. Professionalizing, of quality, and attractive at the national and sub-regional level, these training courses aim to train cotton specialist executives by contributing to the development of sustainable production systems.
This project was selected as part of the second edition of the “Africa-France Academic Partnerships” program. This program is funded by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) via the French Development Agency (AFD). It is implemented by the National Research Agency (ANR) and Campus France with the support of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR).
