Project Detail |
The project aims to improve access to healthcare in the Northern Province of Rwanda through the partial reconstruction of the Musanze referral hospital, increasing its capacity from 350 to 550 beds, in order to ensure quality healthcare for the 2.1 million inhabitants of the basin.
CONTEXT
The most dynamic city after Kigali and the second city in the country by population, Musanze benefits from its proximity to the northern and western borders of Rwanda as well as its position, located at the entrance to the Volcanoes National Park, to display significant demographic and economic dynamics leading to a significant evolution in health needs.
In this context, the hospital built between the 1930s and 1980s appears out of step with the ambition of the authorities, the reality of needs and the desire to have a modern tool that could attract cross-border workers and tourists.
DESCRIPTION
For these reasons, the Rwandan authorities wish to have a new establishment offering both greater reception capacities, modern technical platforms and also training resources which do not yet exist outside Kigali or Huye.
To this end, and with the support of French technical expertise, a complete reconstruction project for the hospital has been set up in order to double its accommodation and care capacity.
The first phase, which is the subject of this financing, aims to
support the construction of 550 beds, 8 operating theatres and a simple radiology platform. The objective is now to complete the construction of the women-childrens centre, the maternity ward, which currently represents 50% of the hospitals activity. |
